The main reefs which run along a 40 km range are :

  • Palancar, 5 km long, has splendid coral formations and numerous caves, offers one of the best diving spots in the world.

  • Colombia, real labyrinths, full of coral pinacles and lots of caves.

  • Santa Rosa, the most impressive wall in Cozumel, with its caves, tunnels over white sandy floors and huge sponges.
  • Tormentos, Yucab, Paraiso, Chankanaab, Punta Tunich are other beautiful reefs at shallower depths, very colorful and full of tropical fishes.

  • The famous Devil’s Throat at Punta Sur, will leave an everlasting impression to anyone searching for beauty.

  • The spectacular walls at Maracaibo and Barracuda are reserved for only the very experienced divers.

  • The artificial reef of the wreck Felipe Xicoténcalt.

 

The water is crystal clear, with a temperature of 27°c to 31°c (80°f to 84°f) all year round and a visibility of over 50 metres (160 ft).

Besides the Cozumel toad fish (sanopus splendidus), endemic species, only found in Cozumel, the fauna is composed of fish and crustaceans, the most beautiful and colorful in warm water seas : groupers, barracudas, turtles, butterfly fish, parrot fish, spotted eagles rays, stingrays, angel fishes, morray eels, nurses sharks, octopus, snakes, crabs and huge lobsters.
